The City of Wanneroo’s population is set to soar, reaching 412,000 by 2041. With this growth, our current planning models will fall short. We need smarter planning to take us into the future. RailSmart Planning Wanneroo aimed to fuse the latest technology with land-use and transport planning to create a predictive urban development tool. This tool facilitates greater investment certainty and a better future for YOU as a local resident. RailSmart will be used to plan job-friendly, accessible rail station precincts at Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep along the Metronet rail extension. Your community will be set up to thrive with new work and lifestyle opportunities close to home.
The dashboard has now been completed and can be viewed at railsmart.patrec.org - sign up is free. The site is an interactive planning support tool which both analyses the Perth Metropolitan area and predicts future population growth, public transport growth and helps to plan job creation by working out the competitive advantage of Local government areas within the Perth Metropolitan area.
The Planning & Transport Research Centre (PATREC) in a joint venture with City of Wanneroo will steer the RailSmart Project to maximise future employment and transport access along the Metronet rail extension.
Railsmart Planning Wanneroo introduces a future land-use and transport planning tool which will assist urban developers and the City of Wanneroo accommodate the needs of its rapidly growing population.
The Australian Government introduced the Smart Cities and Suburbs Program to give funding support to initiatives which use technology-driven solutions to improve the efficiency and liveability of cities and their suburbs.
