About RailSmart

RailSmart Planning Wanneroo is essentially a research project, however it’s one with a difference.  Up until now, transport and land-use planning researchers have been limited to using traditional research models and tools to find solutions for our City.  Whilst these have been helpful, the conclusions reached (no matter how thorough the research) could only ever be made from historical data alone.

In planning the future landscape involving rapid population growth, next generation employment, transport and other infrastructure – it’s time to add a new, smarter planning tool to the mix.

The RailSmart project sets out to develop this ‘next generation’ transport and land-use planning tool.  This instrument will have the capacity to predict future land-use scenarios.  This will strongly assist all government agencies proactively plan for a smart future in which local residents can really thrive.

Project Partners

The RailSmart Planning Wanneroo project will be guided by expert research from several leading universities coupled with WA transport and planning authorities.

This collaborative “think tank” comprises The University of Western Australia, Edith Cowan University, The Department of Transport, Main Roads Western Australia and The Western Australian Planning Commission.

Smart technology specialists from the private sector will also play a role in developing the RailSmart Planning tool prototype.

Through this process, partnership between local residents, businesses and community stakeholders is key!  The RailSmart initiative is very much a community endeavor and your input throughout the life of the Project is welcomed.

Our objective is to make future planning and urban development surrounding new rail station infrastructure at Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep work for the community, whilst enhancing investment certainty!
